Favorite movies

Quick, name five really great movies you've seen.

Let me see: Searching for Bobby Fisher
Shawshank Redemption
Children of a Lesser God
Tootsie
The Abyss

I haven't seen a really good movie in so long I can't remember when it was. Bill and I rented Shopgirl (sad ending), Syriana (sad, confusing ending), and we went to see The Breakup, which was an unexpected bummer.

I read that Hollywood is having a rough time. They make a big deal out of Pirates of the Caribbean being #1. I think it's just because there's nothing better to see. I am looking forward to M. Night Shymalan's new movie. Although he can never quite top The Sixth Sense.

Braveheart. Watch it on a large _wide_ screen, because you lose a lot of the effect of the cinematography watching it on the standard sized TV with the picture trimmed.

Saints and Soldiers.

Best Two Years.

Baptists at our Barbecue.

Five graet movies:
Nanny McPhee
Anastasia
Bringing Up Baby
Lagaan (from Bollywood)
The Island

I tend to favor kids movies (always have), so the first two might not appeal to most adults. Lagaan was probably the most entertaining thing I've seen all year (about Indian villagers playing Cricket against the British Army). The Island was one of the most unique recent movies I've seen.

Only five favorites? Hard to do.

Life is Beautiful (Italian; read the subtitles instead of listening to the English dubbing -- which was awful)

Bringing Up Baby (Always makes me laugh!)

Arsenic and old Lace (See above)

After that my favorites start to run together, but maybe A Walk in the Clouds, Secondhand Lions and The Mummy.

I'll try to not repeat anyone's answers...

The Journey of August King
The Spitfire Grill
Napoleon Dynamite
The Princess Bride
Les Miserables (haven't read the book or seen the play but I love the movie)

I love Searching for Bobby Fischer and Life is Beautiful. Two of my faves.

Also, rent the Office and Arrested Development on DVD.

Pee-Wee's Big Adventure
About a Boy
In the Mood for Love
Monty Python and the Quest for the Holy Grail

Did you like Shopgirl? I thought it was terrific.

Does anybody like the Alien movies? The first two are some of the best movies I've ever seen.

Neal, we got Baptists at our Barbecue and got really bored by it. I'll send it to you :).

I love the Office! I got the DVD at the store and made Bill watch it. I had to explain the first little part then we were both rolling on the floor.

No, Bryce, I didn't love Shopgirl. I thought Steve Martin played a cad. It actually reminded me of a romance I had long ago where the guy wouldn't marry me, but he couldn't quite give me up either.

although I didn't love him and wouldn't marry him, either, but that's beside the point.

Anne/Bryce,
Go to http://truthlaidbear.com/ and sign up for the "Ecosystem". It's a fun ranking system where you can see who all links to you.

There's lots of stuff that should be done around here that hasn't yet. One of these days when I have time I'll set this blog up proper. Unfortunately, I'm moving right now, so you'll have to be content with fascinating posts from annegb and the occasional drivel from me.

But now that you mention it, I'll go to TTLB. Thanks.

I can't do this fast. I am so hard a lot of times with naming favorites. Well, here is my list. 1. Oliver the musical version of the late 1960's--I have watched it again and again and it turns out that my one-year-old niece also likes it! 2. Raintree County with Elizabeth Taylor and Montgomery Cliff-maybe that is wistful thinking that a decent man would love me. 3. Meet me in St. Louis 4. National Velvet--I hope I got that right. I watched it again and again. Elizabeth Taylor was a great child actress! 5. ET
