I love Taylor Hicks

Well, I taped American Idol Tuesday and watched it yesterday and when Taylor got up and started singing "Play That Funky Music" I got up and shut the front door so no one could see me (the neighbors were out in their yards) and got down. I've decided to save it and use it for exercise which everyone is telling me to do and gag a maggot, I hate exercise. But I love to dance.

Then he sang "Something in the way she moves" which I don't think is the title and I just melted. Bill walked in and I said, "honey, if that guy ever comes to get me, I will have to follow him."

I don't think Taylor will win, but he's won my heart.

Different subject, but not. Do you guys iron any more? I iron. I enjoy it. My grandma used to take in ironing, usually white shirts for the casino workers in Tonopah. I would help her, we would shake water on them (I'm thinking it was a coke bottle with a baby bottle nipple on it) and roll them up and place them in a basket.

Then take out the damp shirts and iron them. My grandma and my mom were good ironers and they taught me. I iron sitting on a stool (now that I'm old) watching TV that I taped the day before. I love the smell of the steam that rises from the shirts. Mostly shirts, they're Bill's. He has to look nice for his job.

Such a good feeling.

Donna Bouchet has a wonderful, serene, gentle blog, called The Quiet Life. Every Friday she puts a "meme" out. I'm not sure what that is, but I'm going to to do it.

I want to know about my friends and I thought this was fun to do on Donna's. I look forward to Fridays.

What is your favorite song?

Why?

Do you have a sense of rhythm?

Is there any household chore that brings you joy?

What was the last thing that you watched on TV? Did you enjoy it?

I'm never quite sure if I'm supposed to answer these when I've seen them on other blogs, but I want you readers to answer. Like I said, I think it's fun to hear about other peoples' lives.

Have a good weekend! I'm going to spend mine taking hot baths with my new VERY EXPENSIVE rose soap and continuing my eating. Yup, still eating away :).

Taylor Hicks was the name of an elementary school in my hometown. I don't watch TV so the first thing that came to mind when I saw the name of the post was that school, and I thought to myself "AnneGB grew up in Prescott!?! Woah!"
Anyhow, I iron. My mom taught me how to do it well, and my sister used to con me into ironing her clothes as well as mine. Nowadays I iron mostly cause I'm too lazy to take the clothes out of the dryer before they wrinkle.
I don't know what a meme really means either, but I'll play too.
~Favorite Song: 'Til Kingdom Come by Coldplay
~Why: I'm not really sure, I'm thinking it's the lyrics and low piano in the background.
~I have an excellent sense of rhythm.
~Mopping. It was never something I was made to do so it always seemed more fun than my normal chores.

I love to iron, except when I am in a rush. I also love to vaccum. I abhor cleaning bathrooms. I wish my mopped floor could stay mopped-looking longer. I don't have a favorite song, but I do have a favorite album right now by Christina Branco. She is from Portugal.

What is your favorite song?

Probably "I Will" by the Beatles.

Why?

Good question. I love the acoustic guitar and the sound of Paul McCartney's voice on this one. The words are nice. Also, it's a romantic song.

Do you have a sense of rhythm?

Yes.

Is there any household chore that brings you joy?

I enjoy doing dishes. It appeals to whatever squib of methodicalness I have in my nature. Also, my wife doesn't like doing dishes. So it's a way to help her out.

p.s. I hate putting away clothes. Not sure why.

Hey AnneGB!
Let me re-iterate once more that I think your blog is freaking awesome.

So... There are several definitions in use for the word meme... This page explains where the word meme came from, but not how most people use it today.

In the sense of the Meme you posted, which is the sense that most bloggers use, a meme is just a cool little thing that you can stick into a blog entry that anybody else can do to. It can be in the form of a sort of survey like the one you did today, or there are some sites like this one or this one that have little quizes and such that then generate a bit of code or a picture that you can put into your blog that says you are 30% Han Solo, 50% Luke Skywalker and 20% chewbacca, or whatever the movie of the day is...

More generally it gets used today as a way of describing the latest craze that goes around on the internet...

What is your favorite song? Right now (though I'll wish I'd said something different later) "Sowing the Seeds of Love" by Tears for Fears.

Why?
I really don't know. It's kind of a dorky song to like.

Do you have a sense of rhythm?
Absolutely not.

Is there any household chore that brings you joy?
In a certain mood, I really like to dust.

What was the last thing that you watched on TV? Did you enjoy it?
Seinfeld. Always.

What is your favorite song?

"Fisherman's Blues" by the Waterboys

Why?

Because it's about redemption. And love. And adventure. And love. And redemption.

Do you have a sense of rhythm?

I'm thinking not.

Is there any household chore that brings you joy?

Ugh, not really. I enjoyed ironing as a kid. But if I put music on, housework's not too awful.

What was the last thing that you watched on TV? Did you enjoy it?

I was watching Pride and Prejudice on dvd, does that count? Oh no, more recently was American Inventor.

Oh, oh, how fun to find out about you guys!

Starfoxy, my best friend moved to Prescott (I'm assuming Arizona) three years ago, loves it. Maybe it was two years.

Kerry Blair lives in Chino Valley.

I have never listened to Cold Play?

We should all dance together, we could put Daniel in the middle and dance to Mony Mony.

Please come mop my kitchen floor, I think it's been at least a month and the grime is going to a whole new level.

Hurray for Just Sayin! I love it, love it, love it!

I probably don't do enough housework to know if there was a part I could come to love, and my favorite song changes daily. Today maybe "Wonderful" from "Wicked" because I love the irony and back story -- not to mention Joel Grey. (I set it as a ringer on my cell phone, but now I'm hesitant to answer calls because I want to hear the chorus.)

I don't watch TV (except baseball), so today's title threw me, too. I not only attended Taylor Hicks school in 2nd grade, but the guy's son was my dentist!

annegb said...

Elizabeth, what kind of music does Christina Blanco sing? Is it like Norah Jones?

Daniel, I've never heard of that song? How does it go? I love Paul McCartney as well, I guess John Lennon was a genius or something, but it occurred to me one day that Paul McCartney has been consistently under rated.

I hate to unload the dishwasher. If the dishwasher is full, I will mope around till somebody unloads it, then I'll clean up the kitchen.

Oh, Hey Jude is my favorite song of all time. Just gets me every time.

Nonny, I like Tears for Fears. Although I'm trying to remember who they are LOL.

I don't know that song, though.

One of my favorite quotes of all time comes from Seinfield "If you're gonna commit suicide, leave a note. It's only common courtesy." I heard it a few months after my son's suicide and just cracked up. I looked everywhere for a damn note.

Nonny mouse, I'm going to do this every Friday. I think it's a blast to read about you guys.

Susan, I've never heard of that band. I'm going to remember that name.

annegb said...

Taylor Hicks has a child? I thought he was in his 20's. Although if he's older, it will be better for me when we run away together.

Oh, I just cracked myself up, "Taylor Hicks son is a dentist?"

I've posted more on my own blog than anybody....

Prescott AZ is indeed the place I was talking about. My parents still live in Prescott (though not in Chino Valley), I might ask them if they know her. Small world. :)

Can you please pray for me? I hate myself down to every cell of my being and I don't know how to exist in this black hole that is myself.

I'm with you, Sara. Hang on.

Do you want to come and have my son-in-law give you a massage?

Hi Princess Butt Gold here. My mom is asking me to read this.

Oh please save me from this. I swear it's like you walk into this house and it sucks you in for live.

Don't live here. She'll suck you in too.

annegb said...

yeah, but what's your favorite song, PB?

Anonymous said...

She's in denial. I don't have a favorite song, but the one that would fit this mood is "Another One Bites the Dust".

Great Blog,
And Taylor Hicks is indeed awesome.
What is your favorite song?

"Have I told you lately" by Rod Stewart

Why?

It's a very hokey tune, but my wife loves it and we danced to it at our wedding.

Do you have a sense of rhythm?

Negative.

Is there any household chore that brings you joy?

I like doing the dishes becasue we have a big window at the sink looking out into the back yard. I like to see what mischief my kids get into back there after my wife ships them outside. :)

I hate ironing because my shirts look just as wrinkled after I'm finished. I just walk around in wrinkled clothes.

Favorite song: this is a tough choice. I'd have to say "I Know It's Over" by the Smiths. All my favorite songs are sad.

I have no rhythm and I don't mind doing the dishes. I know my wife will just let them sit for days.

By the way, Anne, I am thoroughly enjoying your blog. I can't believe we actually heard from Princess Butt Gold herself!

I posted "Fisherman's Blues" on my blog if you want to hear it, Annegb. In the radio.blog on the sidebar.

AnneGB: Regarding American Idol, do you know about dialidol.com? They predict, unscientifically, who will be eliminated each week based on busy signals that participants of their website receive. Anyway, Taylor has been ranked in the #1 spot for just about every single week. It looks like it will end up coming down to Taylor and Chris.

I never iron. If something's wrinkled, I put it in the dryer for a few minutes. I don't own an iron. Irons scare me. They remind me of my grandmother's linen. She ironed everything--even the bed sheets.

One of my favorite songs is "Pussywillows, Cattails" by Gordon Lightfoot. It's an absolutely gorgeous song with amazing lyrics. Check 'em out:

a massage sounds most excellent.

Thanks annegb, sorry to put it in a thread it had nothing to do with, but my family, my in-laws, are not people who are well they are well I'm very alone, emotionally. In regards to them.

I just didn't want them to know, or I'da posted it on my blog.

I like Taylor too, but for the first few weeks I thought he couldn't sing. Lol!

I still wish the black lady with the power curly do from last season, who would sing funky songs, was a marvelous singer. I didn't always like her choice of song, but she could sing the heck out of it usually, plus she had oodles of presence. She commanded the stage and audience, most of the time, really pulled me in.

I really liked Catherine McPhee's Black Horse and a Cherry Tree performance. I had never heard the song before.

I think I've ironed maybe 25 times in my whole life. Lol!

I like memes! I have some from time to time as well. When you want someone else to pick up the meme on their blog, you "tag" them, just mention that you tagged em in your meme post, and they'll probably see it and if so inclined do the meme on their blog. I'll have to "tag" you with one one of these days . . .hee!

My favorite song is possibly In My Daughter's Eyes by Martina McBride.

In my daughter's eyes I am a hero
I am strong and wise and I know no fear
But the truth is plain to see
She was sent to rescue me
I see who I want to be
In my daughter's eyes

In my daughter's eyes
Everyone is equal
Darkness turns to light
And the world is at peace
This miracle God gave to me
Gives me strength when I'm weak
I find reason to believe
In my daughter's eyes

And when she wraps her hand around my finger
Oh it puts a smile in my heart
Everything becomes a little clearer
I realize what life is all about

It's hangin' on when your heart
Is had enough
It's givin' more when you feel like givin' up
I've seen the light
It's in my daughter's eyes

In my daughter's eyes
I can see the future
A reflection of who I am
And what we'll be
And though she'll grow and someday leave
Maybe raise a family
When I'm gone
I hope you'll see
How happy she made me
For I'll be there
In my daughter's eyes

The words say it all, and it's a very beautiful melody. I can't hear it without crying.

Well, I have a sense of rythym in that I used to play the piano, and could feel the rythyms and play to them, but as for a personal sense of rythym, NOOoooooooo.

No. Well, I MIGHT be starting to learn to like folding the laundry, with my husband. It's so much better with him. As are most marital things.

Am I going on too long? I've often felt, over my lifetime, that I should be muzzled. Because I CANNOT SHUT UP. Doesn't matter how hard I try. In fact, I CUT myself to try to make myself shut up. Works for awhile, anyway.

Um, like you wanted to know that. But hey, if I can't be my screwy ole mental nutcase self with you, then who can I be? I was having a really bad day long before I even got up this morning.

Um, back to the meme.

The last thing I watched on TV was Tivo'd Smallville from Thursday night. Hooo boy is that young man handsome or what? And John Schneider, too, even if he was really **** in this episode. Didn't want to spoil anything, there. Yes, enjoyed it muchly! I love how deliciously complex Lex is. Clark is the Yin, and Lex is the Yang. Yummy!

Hmm, maybe I need a good hot scented bath myself. Been stitching up a delicate and stunning beaded owl pendant for the lady who came into my life by the Lord's hand and was how I first came into contact with the mental help I am now receiving.

Cause, dang, I sure do need it. Lol!

Sara (who maybe needs a little bit of duct tape right now; or worse)

The worst thing I know about myself is that I exist. And my motor-mouth/motor-fingers on the keyboard is one of the major reasons I feel that way.

Well heck, I'm tempted to delete what I just posted, but . . . . this is how I am, today. I attempt to rein it in less, with people I deeply trust like you, Annegb, than I would on a more . . . formal blog. Attempt being the operative word.

Ah, hell. Sorry to those who know what the hell I'm talking about. See, I couldn't shut up if my life depended on it. Which it may come to, at some point. ARGH. I must be worse off than I thought.

Okay, one last thing; I'll be calling my iatrist on Monday, because I no longer think the anti-depressent is completely doing it's thang.

annegb said...

Sara, be who you are. I love you, and I like you--you post what you want here. If you post a long line of expletives, you'll understand if I delete them :).

Anonymous: I did not know that! Sarah (a different one)and I have a bet on--I figure Chris won already.

I thought Taylor was so spastic (using the word literally, not derogatively) that people wouldn't vote for him. But obviously they have.

Plus he lives in Vegas, which is only 170 miles south of me.

I'm going to listen to your song, Susan--and then I'm checking out Gordon Lightfoot.

Sara, I love Martina McBride, also. But whenever I hear that song, I think "in my daughter's eyes. . .I'm sort of screwy." My kids all think I"m a little off my rocker. They don't know what blogging is and it's mom's little hobby that keeps her from bugging them :).

What is your favorite song?
It changes daily, usually anything by Tori Amos, today its Purple People:

Well hey do you do Judo
when they surround you
A little mental yoga
will they disappear

It's grim but never dubious as motives go
One thing she'll always promises
promises is a show
Thunder wishes it could be the Snow
Wishes it could be as loved as she can be
These gifts are here
for her
for you
for me

I watch me be this other thing and never know
if I'm marooned or where the purple people go
then lily white matricide
from vicious words
it doesn't leave a scratch
so therefore no one's hurt

Thunder wishes it could be the Snow
Wishes it could be as loved as she can be
These gifts are here
for her
for you
for me

And don't you know
The nurses make it clear
Just when you've escape
you have yourself to fear
a restaurant that never has to close
Breakfast, every hour
it could save the world

so hey do you do Judo in your finery
an angel's face is tricky to wear constantly

Why?

I like Tori Amos, because each time you listen to her songs you understand it on a deeper level or at least get something new out of it every time you play it.

Do you have a sense of rhythm?

I like to think I do, but if you ask my son, he would LOL!

Is there any household chore that brings you joy?

I LOVE to mop my floors...listen to music really loud and dance around with the mop. It’s quite a scene, but it brings me joy.

annegb said...

Come and mop my floors! I can't remember the last time the kitchen got mopped, I think it was in March. I can put on some good music for you.
