My new addiction

I have discovered Tetris. Bill and I always bicker when we travel because his driving bothers me (if I drive, we bicker, also, because my driving bothers him). So I went to Wal-Mart and got a recommendation from a kid to try Tetris.

It works like a charm. I sit with my nose glued to the game and never notice when he drives off the road. He won't play it when I drive though. Probably too hard for him.

But, you guys, I think I'm getting pretty good at it. Like I can get up to six without even trying. I've never made it past nine, but at first I never got past zero.

My grandson says he's been to 30, but I think he's fibbing. Imagine fibbing to your own grandma so she won't know she's better than you.

I take it everywhere and I'm like a snotty teenager, ignoring everyone and playing my game. It's wonderful to watch TV with because I can't just sit and watch TV.

Well, I like technology.

I love puzzle games like Tetris. Word games also. I take my PSP (handheld videogame system) to concerts and play puzzle games in between bands. I'm really good, too. I work for at an advertising agency that does work for a videogame company, and the account team there are always playing videogames to stay up on what's current. I beat one of them at a puzzle game and he refused to accept it. It was funny.

We have a Boggle handheld and a Battleship handheld that we bought for when we're in waiting rooms and the like; it's been awhile since I've seen them, I'll have to dig them out.

We bought a two-person plug n play tetris two-joystic/controller thingie that plugs into the tv a while back, for half price. It's got different modes of play; garbage is challenging, as it starts out w/a somewhat scattering of grey pieces in it, so you have to work around those and try to get them reduced and eliminated cause they interfere w/playing. It's fun, tho!

Hubby beats me regularly.

Wait, that sounds like something entirely different, lol.

at TETRIS. hee hee. I think it'd be fun to come down to Cedar City sometime; if I stayed down there, we could get together and I'd bring the two player tetris thing and we could have a deathmatch duel (just kidding on the death part, lol!)

Anyway, fun stuff. I tried a 3d version of tetris once.

I think I might know what Tetris is. I might involve too much spatial reasoning for me. I think technology is good when it helps with relationships. My dad is always listening to political shows and I have my refuge at the computer. Don't get me wrong, I like politics. But most of the talk is so speculative and not substantive on those 24 hour news channels. And I can only take so much news! But they are really good about letting me be as I am on the computer.

I started playing Tetris when I was pregnant with my first, just on a whim. I'd never played any video game of any kind before. I found it very relaxing at first. Then I got good at it, like you. I started dreaming tetris. And the worst....I'd be sitting in therapy with someone and during the session I'd have this running tetris game going on in my head, sort of on an invisible screen between me and the client. I literally could carry on a conversation and do the game at the same time.
Needless to say, I had to put it away. I've been sober for almost 7 years.

I'll have to remember the tip next time I drive with hubby. For us, the car is like a fight waiting to happen. This weekend, we had to drive the two hour trek to my hubby's work because he forgot his wallet there. I was ALMOST relieved that the freeway was closed and we had to go home because then the inevitable fight never materialized. divine intervention.

I actually found myself dreaming tetris, too, elizabeth! I've toned it down considerably, out of sheer boredom, it got too easy. But it sure is great when you're in the dentist's office.

Or, like you, Maralise, fighting with one's husband.

Sara, I don't think it would be fun to play tetris with other people. I can't see how that would be done. Bill and I, that would never work.

Oh, man! I love Tetris! We had it on the computer for a while but I had to take it off because I work from home on the computer and I kept playing instead of working. :)
